Oscar-winning composer A R Rahman recently shared his unique approach to avoiding Mumbai’s notorious traffic congestion. In an interview, Rahman revealed that he prefers to work and travel at night when the roads are less crowded. “Yeah, because in the night, there is no traffic.
I can go anywhere. My creativity works only in the night,” Rahman said. He also mentioned that he sometimes visits the Durgah early in the morning before returning home to sleep.
“Nowadays, I am sleeping at night. But normally, I get up at 2.30 and go to sleep at 7.00,” Rahman disclosed. This nighttime routine has been a part of Rahman’s life since he worked on the film “Taal” many years ago.
Rahman’s nighttime creativity and routine
“This has been my routine since the time of Taal. Like from that time.
Doing the same thing,” he said. Currently, Rahman is composing music for director Mani Ratnam’s upcoming film “Thug Life,” starring Kamal Haasan. At the launch of the film’s first single, Rahman shared that he has been working on the music for the past four months.
“Every day I will be doing some things, sending it to Mani sir and asking him, ‘Is it good or not?’,” Rahman said. He added, “It is Kamal sir’s movie. He’s done everything.
It is like every scene for which I am scoring is looking at me and asking ‘What are you gonna do?’.”
Rahman’s dedication to his craft and his unconventional approach to managing his time and avoiding traffic highlight his commitment to creating exceptional music despite the challenges he faces.
