Emily Blunt has shared an update on the filming of “The Devil Wears Prada 2.” The sequel to the 2006 film will begin production next month. Blunt confirmed she will reprise her role as Emily Charlton in the follow-up. She joked about not being able to share many details, saying, “Can you tell I’m skirting the issue?
Can you tell I can’t tell you anything?”
Aline Brosh McKenna, who wrote the screenplay for the first film, is returning to pen the sequel. The original director is also expected to return. Blunt admitted she hasn’t read a script yet and doesn’t know where her character’s journey will go.
“It’s so weird, I haven’t even read a script. I don’t know. I’m just like, ‘Where is she?’ I don’t know,” she said.
“The Devil Wears Prada,” which celebrated its 20th anniversary this month, starred Anne Hathaway as Andy Sachs, a recent college graduate who takes a job as an assistant to the diabolical Miranda Priestley, played by Meryl Streep.
Blunt teases Prada sequel details
Reflecting on the original film’s enduring appeal, Blunt said, “It’s gone by in a blink.”
The sequel, announced last July, is set to premiere in theaters on May 1, 2026.
While no casting has been officially confirmed, Blunt is expected to reunite with Streep and Hathaway. Plot details have yet to be shared, but Lauren Weisberger’s 2013 book sequel, “Revenge Wears Prada: The Devil Returns,” follows Andy as the editor for a new bridal magazine while planning her own wedding and living in fear of her inevitable reunion with Miranda Priestley. Blunt also revealed that her daughters, Hazel, 11, and Violet, 9, are excited about the upcoming sequel and want to visit the set.
“I think they would quite like to go to set. Just for the fashion,” she said. The actress humorously added, “I know, they’re like, ‘Mary Schmoppins, this is like Devil Wears Prada.
They’re all about it.'”
Blunt discussed how her children perceive her character from the original movie. “They thought I was the meanest person they’ve ever met,” she said about their reaction to her high-strung assistant role at a fictional fashion magazine. Despite this, Blunt noted that others appreciated the character far more, saying her lines from the film are still “quoted to me every week.”
As fans eagerly wait for more details about “The Devil Wears Prada 2,” Blunt remains tight-lipped.
However, her daughters’ excitement suggests that the sequel will capture the magic and glamour of the original film that charmed audiences worldwide.
