Amanda Seyfried recently reflected on her role in the 2004 teen comedy “Mean Girls.” She described the experience of making the film as “unadulterated fun.”
“I truly think the experience of making it has nothing to do with how well it did,” Seyfried said. “For me, it was just everything was new. Craft service table was new, catered lunches were new, the costumes were so specific and fun.
Everything about it was new.”
Seyfried, who was just 17 when she starred in the movie, added about her castmates, “We got along so beautifully, and we would go out together on the weekends. It was so unadulterated fun.”
Speaking about the film’s cult classic status, Seyfried noted, “It becomes a forever moment, a moment locked in time. A timeless film with timeless humor.”
The actress expressed that she feared she might never work again if the movie failed.
She added, “Until the day you die, a 14-year-old girl will come up to you every day and quote you as if it just came out the day before. I hope they quote it on my grave. That’s an organic moment.
Reflecting on Karen Smith’s innocence
It was, in many ways, a perfect movie, and people relate to it still. It really connected us, and it continues to.
I’ll honor that movie for what it did for me as a person.”
Seyfried played Karen Smith, one of the Plastics, who became a major hit for her memorable one-liners. One of her most famous lines claims that she has “psychic” abilities, noting that her breasts can predict when it’s going to rain. “Well, they can tell when it’s raining,” she clarified.
Karen later became the school’s weather reporter. Although the character was often clueless, she became a fan favorite for her quirky innocence. Seyfried has also addressed feeling “grossed out” over some men’s reactions to the character’s scenes, especially given she was just 18 years old at the time of filming.
Despite this, her role in “Mean Girls” remains one of the key highlights of her career. “Mean Girls,” written by Tina Fey and also starring Lindsay Lohan, Rachel McAdams, Jonathan Bennett, Fey, and Amy Poehler, continues to hold a special place in pop culture and in the hearts of its fans.
