Anthony Mackie sets 10-year Captain America limit

Anthony Mackie says he plans to play Captain America for only 10 more years. The actor confirmed this during a recent press tour for his upcoming film “Captain America: Brave New World.”

“No, no, no. The 10 years start on the 14th,” Mackie said.

“That’s it. After the 14th, I got a 10-year run. I’m not trying to be a 60-year-old Captain America.

That’ll hurt.”

Mackie joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Sam Wilson in 2014’s “Captain America: The Winter Soldier.” In 2019, “Avengers: Endgame” ended with Steve Rogers passing his shield and the mantle of Captain America to Sam. In 2021, “The Falcon and The Winter Soldier” saw Sam finally wielding the shield.

He emphasized that he believes Captain America works best on the big screen. “It just works in a cinematic base that I think movies, Captain America deserves to be on the big screen because people love Captain America and that’s where they want to see him,” Mackie stated.

“Captain America: Brave New World” features Sam Wilson meeting with the newly elected U.S. President Thaddeus Ross, played by Harrison Ford in his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut.
