Pierce Brosnan has faced criticism for his attempt at an Irish accent in his new crime drama series, MobLand. The show, streaming on Paramount Plus, features Brosnan as Harry, a fixer for the London-based crime family, the Harrigans. Despite Brosnan’s Irish heritage, social media reactions have been harsh.

User Action Jackson posted on X, “Watching the first episode of MobLand. Very good.

Brosnan’s Irish accent critique

Pierce Brosnan’s accent is horrific.”

Ste added, “Considering he’s Irish, Pierce Brosnan’s attempt at an Irish accent can only be described as offensive.”

The Irish Independent noted that Conrad’s speaking voice was “all over the shop and a huge distraction.”

In a recent interview, Brosnan, 71, admitted that his Irish accent had ‘dissipated into the midst of time,’ expressing nervousness about using it for this role. He detailed a conversation with director Guy Ritchie who had advised him not to worry about the accent. However, on set, Ritchie asked for a more pronounced Irish accent, leading Brosnan to struggle with finding the right tone, ultimately settling on a Kerry accent.

Brosnan is not alone in facing criticism for on-screen accents. Other actors like Dick Van Dyke in Mary Poppins and Anne Hathaway in One Day have also been called out for their attempts. MobLand is currently streaming on Paramount Plus.
