The Sundance Film Festival is back in full swing for 2025, with celebrities flocking to the snowy town of Park City, Utah. The festival kicked off on Friday, and famous faces like Conan O’Brien, Rose Byrne, and Cynthia Erivo have already made appearances. John Lithgow and Olivia Colman also sat down for a conversation, answering questions and discussing their movies.

The festival is not just about film stars, as celebrities can often be found hitting the slopes on skis or snowboards, adding a unique twist to the star-studded event. This year’s lineup promises a diverse and compelling selection of films. One of the most anticipated is “Opus,” starring Ayo Edebiri as a journalist investigating a reclusive pop star played by John Malkovich.

The film, which has the A24 seal of approval, is expected to be a mix of horror and comedy.

Another buzzworthy film is “Rebuilding,” starring Josh O’Connor and Meghann Fahy as a cowboy and his ex-wife grappling with the loss of their ranch in the aftermath of a wildfire.

The film is directed by Max Walker-Silverman, whose last film, “A Love Song,” was one of the best-reviewed of Sundance 2022. The film tells the story of two politically different men sharing a prison cell and retreating into the world of fantasy.

Other notable films include Andrew Jarecki’s latest documentary, “The Alabama Solution,” which follows incarcerated men exposing a cover-up at one of America’s deadliest prisons, and “2000 Meters to Andriivka,” Mstyslav Chernov’s urgent look at the war in Ukraine. As the festival progresses, the buzz around which films will secure major deals is palpable. Some of the most talked-about films include “Bubble & Squeak,” an offbeat comedy starring Himesh Patel, Sarah Goldberg, and Steven Yeun, and “Come See Me in the Good Light,” a life-affirming documentary about a cancer diagnosis.

Other films generating significant interest include “The Dating Game,” a documentary about China’s modern dating scene, “Didn’t Die,” a black-and-white indie horror film, and “Endless Cookie,” an animated psychedelic journey set in 1980s Toronto.
