The release of a new clip from James Gunn’s upcoming Superman film has generated mixed reactions among fans. The scene, which features Lois Lane interviewing Clark Kent as he speaks in his role as Superman, was critiqued during a recent Geeks + Gamers live stream. Hosts Jeremy Griggs and Steph Anie expressed disappointment with the portrayal of the characters and their dynamic.
They felt that the interview quickly turned into a grilling session, with Superman on the defensive. One moment that particularly irked viewers was when Superman responded to a question about social media by saying, “Superman has no time for selfies.”
Griggs criticized the film for coming across as too “current-day” for a timeless character like Superman. Anie was disappointed that the scene didn’t convey the sense that Lois and Clark are in love, a staple of most Superman stories.
Fans’ reactions to Clark and Lois
She also disliked that Clark couldn’t seem to be himself around Lois. Another co-host, Beardo, compared David Corenswet’s portrayal to that of Christopher Reeve.
He felt that Reeve’s Superman would have been composed and unaffected by Lois’s probing questions, unlike Corenswet’s more reactive version. Griggs remarked, “Everything I’ve seen from this movie makes me less and less excited.” He criticized Warner Bros./DC Studios for releasing a clip he felt was ineffective in generating excitement for Gunn’s take on the Man of Steel. Despite the critiques, Griggs remains hopeful that the film will perform well in theaters so that Superman can once again become the gold standard for superhero cinema.
However, Beardo is not optimistic, predicting that Gunn’s film will be a disappointment. As the release date approaches, the upcoming film continues to generate debate and anticipation among fans.
