Daisy Edgar-Jones will star in a new adaptation of Jane Austen’s classic novel “Sense and Sensibility.” The film will be produced by Focus Features and Working Title Films. Edgar-Jones, 27, will play Elinor Dashwood, one of the two sisters at the heart of the story. Elinor and her sister Marianne navigate love, loss, and financial uncertainty in 18th-century England.
The movie will be directed by Georgia Oakley, known for her debut feature “Blue Jean.” The screenplay will be written by Diana Reid, a bestselling author. Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner of Working Title Films will produce the project. India Flint of November Pictures and Jo Wallett will also serve as producers.

“Sense and Sensibility” was Austen’s first novel, published in 1811. It has been adapted for the screen multiple times, most notably in a 1995 film directed by Ang Lee and starring Emma Thompson and Kate Winslet.
Focus Features and Working Title have previously collaborated on Austen adaptations. They worked together on the 2005 version of “Pride and Prejudice” with Keira Knightly and the 2020 release of “Emma” featuring Anya Taylor-Joy. Edgar-Jones shared the news on Instagram with a selfie holding a copy of the book.
She is known for her roles in films like “Where the Crawdads Sing” and series such as “Normal People” and “Under the Banner of Heaven.”
Fans expressed excitement about Edgar-Jones taking on the role of an Austen heroine. Further casting details and a release date have not yet been announced.
