Blur frontman Damon Albarn recently shared his thoughts on the highly anticipated Oasis reunion tour. In an interview with Italian newspaper Il Messaggero, Albarn described himself as “prophetic” for predicting the reunion two years ago. “Two years ago I was prophetic when I said that they would do it and that the road was level,” Albarn stated.
“Well, you can’t think that two brothers can’t reconcile, sooner or later. It’s a good thing, the way I see it.”
Despite his positive outlook on the reunion, Albarn admitted he likely won’t be attending any of the shows himself.
Albarn discusses Oasis reunion
When asked if he planned to catch an Oasis performance, he laughed and replied, “No: I’m literally too busy.”
Albarn is currently occupied with various projects, including a series of performances in London from August 29 to September 3. These concerts will feature Albarn and his full band, accompanied by visuals from Jamie Hewlett, performing their earliest albums in full. The Blur frontman has also revived his Africa Express project, which recently announced its first album since 2019, titled “Africa Express Presents… Bahidora.”
As for his Blur bandmates, drummer Dave Rowntree expressed interest in attending an Oasis show, while guitarist Graham Coxon described the reunion positively but is unlikely to attend due to his own busy schedule.
The Oasis reunion tour continues on Friday, July 11, at Manchester’s Heaton Park, marking the first of five significant homecoming dates. Reviews from recent performances, such as one in Cardiff, highlight a carefree and nostalgic atmosphere, engaging both long-time fans and a new generation. While Albarn and Blur continue to forge their own path, the Oasis reunion serves as a reminder of the powerful influence both bands have had on music and culture, transporting fans back to the halcyon days of the 1990s Britpop era.
