Polygamy Backlash

Pakistani actor Danish Taimoor recently faced backlash on social media after making controversial remarks about polygamy during a Ramazan transmission. Taimoor, who was hosting the show with his wife Ayeza Khan, stated that he has the right to marry four times according to Islamic teachings. “If God has given permission for something, then He has given permission for it.

That I’m not doing it is a different matter,” Taimoor said. He added that it’s out of respect and love for his wife that he chooses not to exercise this right “for now.”

Taimoor’s comments sparked outrage among viewers, with many accusing him of disrespecting his wife on national television. Critics argued that his remarks were unnecessary and reinforced patriarchal norms.

In response to the backlash, Taimoor defended his statements, saying that he meant no harm and that his words were misinterpreted. “Ayeza and I were reading the comments and laughing,” he said. “As I had said, I am allowed to marry four times, but I am not doing so because, right now, I love my wife.

And I still stand by it.”

Taimoor explained his use of the phrase “for now,” stating that he doesn’t know if he will be alive in the next second and that nothing lasts forever.

He criticized the internet for judging him harshly based on his remarks.

Despite the controversy, Taimoor reiterated his love and respect for his wife. “I have permission to have four marriages; the fact that I am not doing so is a different matter. But Allah has given me this permission, and no one can take it away from me.

However, out of love and respect for Ayeza, I want to spend my life with only her for now,” he said. The incident has sparked a broader discussion about gender roles and respect in relationships. Many online commentators drew parallels to other cases where successful women were subjected to similar treatment by their husbands.

Taimoor and Khan, who are prominent figures in the Pakistani television industry, first met on a social networking site and got married in 2014 after eight years of dating. The couple has two children together. While Taimoor stands firm on his beliefs, the controversy has highlighted the need for sensitivity and respect in public discussions about marriage and gender roles.
