Ethan Embry is finally getting his chance to be a part of the iconic “Scream” franchise, nearly three decades after his original audition for the first film. The actor recently shared his memories of auditioning for Wes Craven back in the 1990s, and it seems his performance did not impress the legendary director. “I remember auditioning for the first ‘Scream’ movie,” Embry said.

“I can’t recall exactly which character I was auditioning for, but it was either for Stu or one of the other main roles. Unfortunately, I did not receive good feedback. My audition was horrifying — and not in a good way.”

Despite the setback, Embry is now set to join the cast of “Scream 7”, although details about his role and the film’s plot remain under wraps.

Joining the ‘Scream’ family

The actor expressed his excitement about being a part of the franchise he has admired for so long. “The one thing I can tell you is that it was absolutely incredible to be invited,” he said.

“That is a lovely community of people, from the very beginning to what it is now, and I’ve been wanting to be a part of that franchise since the very beginning.”

The seventh installment of the “Scream” series has faced some challenges during its production, including the departure of director Christopher Landon in 2023. Kevin Williamson, who wrote the original “Scream” film as well as the second and fourth entries, has taken over the directing duties. The film will feature some of the original cast members reprising their roles, including Matthew Lillard, alongside franchise newcomers such as Mason Gooding, Jr., Jasmin Savoy Brown, and Ghostface voice actor Roger L. Jackson.

“Scream 7” is scheduled for release on February 27, 2026. Embry’s perseverance and eventual success in joining the “Scream” franchise serve as a testament to the lasting impact of Wes Craven’s creation and the dedicated fanbase that continues to support the series.
