Frieze New York is gearing up for its 2025 edition, set to take place from May 7 to 11 at the Shed. The fair will feature 67 galleries from over 25 countries, showcasing a diverse range of contemporary art. Among the exhibitors are renowned international galleries such as Gagosian, Hauser & Wirth, Pace Gallery, Perrotin, Thaddaeus Ropac, White Cube, and David Zwirner.

The fair will also include a strong presence from New York-based galleries, including 303 Gallery, Miguel Abreu Gallery, Chapter NY, Casey Kaplan, and Ortuzar Projects. Christine Messineo, Frieze’s director of Americas, stated, “Each year, Frieze brings together art galleries, artists, and collectors from around the world. Over several days, dynamic voices that shape today’s international art world engage with the best and the brightest in New York City’s rich cultural landscape.

The result is an experience that deepens one’s understanding and enjoyment of contemporary art.”

The fair will also feature its Focus section, curated by Lumi Tan for the second year. This section welcomes young galleries showcasing emerging or underrepresented artists.

Seven of the twelve galleries in this section are new, including Champ Lacombe of London and Biarritz, Seoul’s G Gallery, King’s Leap and Management from New York, London’s Public Gallery, Voloshyn Gallery of Miami and Kyiv, and Singapore’s Yeo Workshop. Tan expressed her excitement about the increased international presence in the Focus section, stating, “The ambitious presentations across the section demonstrate the imperative role of artists in complicating neatly packaged narratives around the individual and society.”

Notable presentations in the Focus section include New York-based gallery Gordon Robichaux’s showcase of the work of Jenni Crain, who passed away from Covid-19-related complications, a trio of interactive video works by Danielle Brathwaite-Shirley centering Black trans experiences at Public Gallery, and an installation made from antique textiles by Balinese artist Citra Sasmita at Yeo Workshop. Frieze New York’s announcement comes amid a turbulent time for its parent company, Endeavor, which has been exploring a sale of Frieze, its titular magazine, and its London exhibition space.

The fair also follows the opening of Frieze LA, which took place despite the devastating wildfires in California earlier this year.
