Hugh Jackman was reportedly “extremely disappointed” by comments from his ex-wife Deborra-Lee Furness about their divorce. Furness spoke out on May 27, after the couple filed for divorce. She described the split as a “profound wound that cuts deep.”

The couple got married in 1996 after meeting on an Australian TV show.

They announced their separation in September 2023. They said they wanted to pursue individual growth after a “wonderful, loving marriage.”

The Daily Mail reported that a source said Jackman, 56, was caught off guard by Furness’ remarks. The source said there was an unofficial agreement that Furness would not speak negatively about Jackman publicly.

Jackman was not prepared for her honest comments. Representatives for both Jackman and Furness did not respond to requests for comment. In her statement, Furness, 69, talked about their nearly 30-year marriage.

She highlighted the emotional impact of their separation. “My heart and compassion go out to everyone who has gone through the traumatic journey of betrayal,” she said.

“It’s a profound wound that cuts deep. However, I believe in a higher power and that God or the universe, whatever you relate to as your guidance, is always working.”

Furness also said she has gained wisdom through the experience. She sees adversity as a path to personal growth and freedom.

“Even when we are presented with apparent adversity, it is leading us to our greatest good, our true purpose,” she added. The couple, who have two children, had previously said their separation was friendly. They said it was the only public statement they would make about their personal lives.
