Ioannis Vasilopoulos, a renowned artist known for his iconic album cover designs, passed away on April 7, 2025, at the age of 66. His family shared a heartfelt message thanking fans for their support during this difficult time. “The outpouring of love for Ioannis and his work is a great comfort,” the family stated.

Born in Athens, Greece, Vasilopoulos moved to the United States as a child. He developed a passion for comic books, animation, and music, which led him to design his first album cover while still in college. Throughout his impressive career, he created more than 350 album covers, concert poster artwork, and major marketing campaigns.
Artist’s legacy lives on
Vasilopoulos worked with many classic rock bands, including the Allman Brothers, Bon Jovi, Deep Purple, Uriah Heep, Styx, Blue Öyster Cult, Dream Theater, and King Crimson. He designed covers for albums such as “Return to Paradise” (1997), “Brave New World” (1997), “Edge of Forever,” “Extreme II: Pornograffitti,” “The ConstruKction of Light” (2001), and “A Long Day’s Night” (2002).
His passing led to some confusion on social media, with the hashtag “Bon Jovi dead” trending briefly. However, it was quickly clarified that Jon Bon Jovi is alive and well, and the hashtag was referring to Vasilopoulos’s death. Vasilopoulos’s influence extended beyond album covers.
He co-created the book “Fade to Black” with Martin Popoff and contributed artwork to “Get the Led Out,” a book about Led Zeppelin by Denny Somach. His work was celebrated in several exhibitions across the United States, and he continued to sell his artwork worldwide until his passing. Ioannis Vasilopoulos is survived by his wife Lisa, daughter Maria and son-in-law Conor, grandchildren Henry and Jack, brother George, sister-in-law Gaylene, niece Sophia, and sister Elizabeth.
