Kofi Adomah Nwanwanii, a popular Ghanaian media personality, has opened up about the emotional and physical trauma he experienced after being shot in the eye while covering the Kwafie festival in Dormaa in December 2024. Speaking at a press conference on March 13, 2025, alongside his wife, Kofi recounted the dark moments he faced following the incident. “At one point, I thought it was better to die than to live because of some of the narratives I was hearing about myself,” Kofi bitterly lamented.
He admitted that the emotional and financial burden, combined with the pain he experienced, left him questioning the value of life. “When I considered the money being discussed and felt the pain I was experiencing, I wondered what there was to live for,” he added. Kofi Adomah, along with his team from Angel FM/TV, Kofi TV, and MagrahebTV, had traveled to Dormaa Ahenkro in the Bono Region of Ghana to cover the Dormaa Kwafie festival and the 25th anniversary of the enstoolment of Dormaahene, Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Agyeman Badu II.
While covering the event, Kofi was shot in the face by one of the gunmen wielding a musket, causing severe damage to his eyes and necessitating a series of surgeries on both eyes. The Chief Executive Officer of Angel FM, Vincent Opare, disclosed that the company contributed approximately GH¢750,000 to support Kofi Adomah’s medical expenses.

Opare explained that he personally visited the hospital to assess the journalist’s eye condition and encouraged the family to remain strong. Despite the financial support from Angel FM, Kofi Adomah expressed disappointment over what he perceives as neglect from Dormaahene and the hurtful remarks made by Vincent Opare about his condition. “During the time I was going through severe pain when we travelled for my surgery, I heard the third person among us playing a video where Vincent Opare, the CEO of Angel FM, said he cares about the company more than me.
That was when I realised he doesn’t care about my emotions. He doesn’t understand what I’m going through,” Kofi said. Kofi Adomah’s revelation has sparked an outpouring of support from fans and the general public, highlighting the emotional and physical toll that such incidents can have on individuals.
Many have called for thorough investigations to bring the perpetrators to justice and ensure such incidents do not recur. A GoFundMe account has also been created to solicit funds for another upcoming surgery for Kofi Adomah. The incident has drawn attention to the risks faced by journalists while covering events and the need for better safety measures to protect them in the line of duty.
