The Loewe Foundation has announced the shortlist for the 2025 Craft Prize. 30 artists from 18 countries were chosen from over 4,500 applications. The finalists will present their works in an exhibition at the Thyssen-Bornemisza National Museum in Madrid from May 30 to June 29, 2025.
The winner will be selected by a jury of 13 experts in design, architecture, journalism, criticism, and museum curatorship. They will receive a €50,000 award at the exhibition’s opening ceremony on May 29. Sheila Loewe, president of the Loewe Foundation, said, “Year on year it gives me such pleasure to see the LOEWE FOUNDATION Craft Prize provide a platform for extraordinary talent and change the perception of craft internationally.

It honors the brand’s roots as a craft workshop through recognizing artistic dedication, excellence, and innovation. Many of the finalists use contemporary approaches to ancient craft techniques. Some employ basketry in clay or weave with metal.
Others reinterpret traditional motifs in unique ways or create singular, futuristic works. Anatxu Zabalbeascoa, executive secretary of the expert panel, says, “The 2025 edition of the Loewe Foundation Craft Prize continues to explore the various ways artists reinterpret and modernize traditions. With each edition, the exhibition seeks to showcase extraordinary craftsmanship, demonstrating how artisans work with both precious and non-precious materials—using traditional hand-tools or cutting-edge technology—to shape a contemporary culture enriched by the talent of diverse and distant creative traditions.”
The finalists work across a range of disciplines including ceramics, wood, textiles, glass, metal, basketry, jewelry, and leather.
The shortlisted artists come from countries spanning Ghana, Japan, the UK, Australia, Brazil, the US, France, Hungary, Spain, South Korea, China, the Bahamas, Nigeria, Ireland, Hong Kong, Kenya, India, and Vietnam.
