Maury Povich has launched a new podcast called “On Par with Maury Povich.” The former talk show host wants to reconnect with his journalistic roots and focus on storytelling. Povich hosted the talk show “Maury” for 31 years before it ended in 2022. He said guests on the show felt they could create a safe space with him and relieve their burdens.

However, he didn’t have the opportunity to talk about himself and his own experiences. The first episode of the podcast features an interview with Povich’s wife, Connie Chung. Povich described Chung as a “groundbreaking journalist” and is excited to have candid conversations with her and other fascinating guests.

Povich sees the podcast as a chance to step back into his journalistic roots and talk to some of the most fascinating people shaping the world.

Storytelling with Maury

He characterized it as a combination of a conversation and a memoir on tape, focusing on his love of storytelling.

Throughout his career, Povich has been recognized for his ability to connect with people and tell their stories. He believes this new medium allows him to unveil more of his personal side, something he couldn’t do while anchoring a newscast. Povich’s dream guests for the podcast include sports legends Charles Barkley and Shaquille O’Neal, as well as rappers Cardi B and Nicki Minaj, who have referenced him in their lyrics.

He was once called a “renaissance man” by Pulitzer Prize-winning TV critic Tom Shales, a description he feels reflects his ability to talk to people and his knowledge of many topics. The podcast launch has generated significant interest from fans who are eager to hear deeper insights and stories from the seasoned journalist. New episodes of “On Par with Maury Povich” are released on Mondays.
