Rock Nominees

Phish leads the fan vote for the 2025 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction, with over 164,000 votes as of March 3. The jam band tops a list of nominees that includes Billy Idol, Soundgarden, Bad Company, and Cyndi Lauper. Over 1 million votes have been cast so far in this year’s fan ballot.

The top five artists are Phish, Billy Idol with 100,385 votes, Soundgarden with 96,138 votes, Bad Company with 93,717 votes, and Cyndi Lauper with 87,997 votes. Rounding out the top 10 are Joe Cocker, Chubby Checker, The Black Crowes, Mariah Carey, and Joy Division + New Order. The White Stripes currently sit in 11th place with just over 50,000 votes.

Fans can vote for up to seven nominees once per day until April 21 on the Rock Hall’s website. The top seven vote-getters will make up a “fan ballot” that will be included in the final voting process.

Phish leads fan vote for induction

The Rock Hall will announce the 2025 inductees in late April, with the induction ceremony set to take place in Los Angeles this fall. Artists become eligible for nomination 25 years after their first commercial recording. Despite the high vote total, this year’s fan voting is lagging behind the 2024 nominees at the same point.

Phish trails last year’s leader Ozzy Osbourne by about 34,000 votes. Some fans have expressed frustration with the inclusion of non-rock acts like Mariah Carey and perceived “fringe” rock nominees such as Billy Idol and Oasis. However, most of the classic rock acts are performing well, including Bad Company, Soundgarden, and Joe Cocker.

The Rock Hall’s voting panel consists of more than 1,200 artists, historians, and music industry professionals. They will determine the class of 2025 based on criteria like the artist’s influence, cultural impact, and career longevity.
