The album features suggestive cover art and 12 songs, starting with “Manchild,” a collaboration with Jack Antonoff and Amy Allen. “My new album, ‘Man’s Best Friend’ 🐾, is out on August 29, 2025. I can’t wait for it to be yours,” Carpenter tweeted.

Fans eagerly await more details about the album, which will be released via Island and is available for pre-order now. The album cover has sparked controversy, showing Carpenter kneeling in a dog-like pose while someone pulls her hair.

Carpenter’s bold album cover sparks debate

Some fans criticized it as insensitive given the current political climate and debates over women’s rights. Others celebrated Carpenter’s bold approach and defended the cover as satirical. Carpenter’s provocative style and embrace of sexual desire are signature elements of her music.

Nearly every song on “Short n’ Sweet” channels themes of sexual desire. Her performances have also been a point of contention, with some defending them as empowering and others criticizing them as pandering to the “male gaze.”

Author Leora Tanenbaum says the debate focuses on a “false dichotomy” between appealing to the “male gaze” or the “female gaze.” Amid changing views on female sexual agency, Carpenter’s boldness places her at the center of discussions about sexuality, empowerment, and artistic expression. “Man’s Best Friend” marks Carpenter’s seventh studio album.

Earlier this year, she won two Grammys for “Short n’ Sweet.” Following the new album’s release, Carpenter will embark on the second sold-out North American leg of her Short n’ Sweet Tour, starting October 23. The album is available for preorder in multiple formats.
