Jeffrey Dean Morgan, known for his role as Negan in The Walking Dead, recently confirmed that he was supposed to play a significant role as Flashpoint Batman in Zack Snyder’s vision for the DC Extended Universe (DCEU). In an interview with Den of Geek, Morgan revealed that Snyder had plans for him to portray Thomas Wayne, Bruce Wayne’s father, in a much larger capacity. “Truthfully, Zack was gonna do more movies,” Morgan said.

“And I think there was a time when Flashpoint Batman would have seen these two characters in a much bigger role. And that was part of Zack’s world of it all, and then I never got a chance to do that, unfortunately.”

Morgan, along with Lauren Cohan, who played Martha Wayne, made brief appearances as Bruce Wayne’s parents in the 2016 film Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. However, Snyder’s original plan was to bring them back in a more substantial way, particularly through the Flashpoint storyline.

In the Flashpoint comic series, Barry Allen travels back in time to save his mother, inadvertently creating an alternate timeline where Bruce Wayne is killed instead of his parents.

Flashpoint plans for Jeffrey Dean Morgan

This leads Thomas Wayne to become Batman and Martha Wayne to become the Joker.

The Flashpoint storyline was initially set to be adapted into a DCEU film, with plans for Morgan to reprise his role as Thomas Wayne. However, due to various changes in the direction of the DCEU and Snyder’s departure from the franchise, the project never came to fruition. Instead, the 2023 film The Flash took a different approach, focusing on other elements such as the return of Michael Keaton’s Batman from the Tim Burton films.

While fans expressed interest in seeing Morgan take on the darker role of Flashpoint Batman, it appears that the opportunity has passed. Morgan and Cohan are currently promoting the second season of The Walking Dead: Dead City, which airs on AMC. Both Batman v Superman and The Flash are available for streaming on Max.
