Zoe Saldaña is enjoying newfound admiration from her children for her roles in children’s movies. The actress, who shares three sons with husband Marco Perego, recently opened up about this during an appearance on “Good Morning America.”
“Incorporating what I do — my art — into a genre that caters to children has always been a great interest to me,” she said. “I get to relate to them, and I also get some mad cool points as a mom.”
Even though her twins, Bowie and Cy, have moved on to watching more mature content like “Friends,” her youngest, Zen, is eagerly awaiting her new movie “Elio.” “My 8-year-old cannot wait for ‘Elio’ to come out,” Saldaña shared.
“Elio,” a Disney and Pixar film, features Saldaña alongside Yonas Kibreab, who voices the titular character, an 11-year-old boy mistaken for the leader of a planet by a group of aliens. Saldaña’s sons have already seen the movie and enjoyed it.

“They immediately bought into the story,” she noted. “Everybody can relate to the themes it talks about: feeling like an alien in your own skin, feeling like you don’t belong, but longing to be a part of a community that accepts you.”
The year has also been significant for Saldaña on a professional level. She recently won her first Oscar at the 2025 ceremony for her performance in “Emilia Perez.” Following the win, she expressed her joy about taking a break and spending quality time with her family.
“The moment everything was over, I just really wanted to go back home and take my kids to school because they took this leap of faith with me — my whole family did — and I wanted to catch up on this time,” she said. “Elio” premieres in theaters on June 20.
