Lil Wayne has released his highly anticipated album “Tha Carter VI,” which features an eclectic mix of collaborations and samples. One of the most notable tracks is “Island Holiday,” which prominently samples Weezer’s 2001 hit “Island in the Sun.”

On “Island Holiday,” Lil Wayne delivers his signature style over the familiar guitar riff from Weezer’s song. He opens the track by singing the original lyrics with heavy Auto-Tune before launching into his own verses.

The song showcases Wayne’s unique blend of hip-hop and rock, with the rapper putting his own spin on the Weezer classic. He incorporates lines from the original while adding his own lyrics and themes.

New album features eclectic collaborations

Weezer frontman Rivers Cuomo is credited as a composer and lyricist on “Island Holiday,” indicating a collaborative acknowledgment of the original work. This isn’t the first time Lil Wayne and Weezer have crossed paths, as Wayne was featured on Weezer’s 2009 track “Can’t Stop Partying.”

“Tha Carter VI” also features a diverse array of collaborations, including appearances by Bono, Andrea Bocelli, Jelly Roll, Machine Gun Kelly, and Wyclef Jean. The album showcases Lil Wayne’s ability to work with artists from various genres and backgrounds.

Lil Wayne is set to embark on his 2025 tour in support of “Tha Carter VI,” kicking off at Madison Square Garden in New York on June 6th. The tour will take him to multiple cities across the United States throughout the summer. While early reviews of the album have been mixed, with some praising its inventiveness and others questioning certain creative choices, there’s no denying that Lil Wayne continues to push boundaries and spark conversation with his music.
