The Acolyte, the latest Star Wars series on Disney+, has provided fans with a glimpse into the galaxy a century before the events of the prequel trilogy. Despite its short run, the show has managed to introduce significant elements to the Star Wars lore, including the appearance of Darth Plagueis, the Sith master who would later train Palpatine. In the series finale, viewers were treated to a brief but intriguing scene featuring Plagueis.

While the context surrounding his appearance was limited, a new book has shed light on crucial details that connect this scene to Plagueis’ backstory. The Visual Guide to The Acolyte has identified the mysterious planet where the character Qimir takes Osha as the home of an intelligent reptilian species, far from the islands. This revelation supports a popular fan theory that the planet is Bal’demnic, a world first introduced in the Star Wars: Clone Wars series and featured prominently in the novel “Darth Plagueis” by James Luceno.

Hints of Plagueis’ past

In both The Acolyte and the Darth Plagueis novel, cortosis, a rare mineral capable of stopping and temporarily deactivating lightsabers, plays a significant role. The presence of Qimir’s cortosis helmet in The Acolyte further strengthens the connection between the show and the novel, as Plagueis sold the mining rights to Bal’demnic due to its rich cortosis deposits.

However, it is important to note that both Star Wars: Clone Wars and the Darth Plagueis novel are now part of the non-canonical Legends continuity. This makes it challenging to establish a definitive link between the two without explicit confirmation from new canonical sources. Despite this, Bal’demnic remains the most plausible explanation for the planet’s identity.
