Cady McClain made her debut on the Friday, February 28th episode of CBS’s “Beyond the Gates” in her new role as Pamela Curtis. In the storyline, Pamela is the best friend of Dani Dupree, played by Karla Mosley, who returns to Fairmont Crest just in time to help her friend navigate the nuptials of Dani’s ex, Bill, who is marrying the younger Hayley. McClain shared, “Acting with the fabulous Karla Mosley who is just so damn good in this show! Seriously, do not miss what is going down on CBS at 2pm, or catch up on Paramount+ because this is some fun stuff! Grateful to be a small part of this amazing series and having a blast bringing this fun character to life!”
Mosley has delivered compelling performances within the first five episodes of the series, drawing comparisons to other complex characters like Erica Kane from “All My Children.” McClain mentioned how she views Pamela and Dani’s relationship similar to that of Opal and Erica from “All My Children,” inspired by actress Jill Larson.
McClain teased that viewers can expect even juicier plot points for Pamela and Dani. “There’s more to the concoction but I can’t give away all my secrets… I hope you enjoy this ride with me, and I thank you so very much for your kind support!”
The chemistry between McClain and Mosley has quickly become one of “Beyond the Gates'” key attractions, leaving fans eager to see what kind of trouble and machinations Pamela and Dani will conjure up as the series progresses. In a noteworthy nod to its cultural impact, “Saturday Night Live’s” Weekend Update co-anchor, Colin Jost, made a funny bit about the new soap opera, mentioning daytime drama’s newest addition to CBS’s lineup.
Jost quipped, “CBS this week premiered the first daytime Black soap opera called Beyond the Gates, and also a crossover white soap opera called ‘How’d Those People Get Beyond the Gates.'” This generated laughter and nods of approval, with Weekend Update co-anchor Michael Che adding, “That’s pretty good.”
Cast and creatives from “Beyond the Gates” reacted positively to the mention on social media.
Debut brings drama and surprises
Jon Lindstrom, who debuts as Joey Armstrong, praised the recognition, sharing, “The new show I’m on made it to SNL weekend update! Nothing like being part of something making cultural waves.”
Meanwhile, series star Karla Mosley joyfully exclaimed, “OK, after having the most amazing time taping last week, I said to our PR team, ‘I’m coming for you!’ …this was faster than I’d imagined… 😳😂😃.
Seriously, y’all, thanks for the honorable mention!!!! 💗💗💗💗💗”
Co-star Arielle Prepetit, who plays Mosley’s daughter Naomi on BTG, added, “SO AMAZING!”
The premiere week of “Beyond the Gates” featured several cliffhangers, culminating in dramatic moments. Dami Dupree interrupts the nuptials of Hayley Lawson and her ex-husband, Bill Hamilton, by objecting to the marriage. In a shocking scene, Dani pulls a small pistol from her purse, aims at Hayley, and fires as the episode concludes.
This suspenseful twist has viewers speculating whether Dani’s actions were real or imagined. Having struggled with Bill leaving her for Hayley, who plans to move into a new home in Fairmont Crest, Dani’s week was marked by emotional outbursts, violent confrontations, and desperate attempts to win Bill back. As “Beyond the Gates” continues, fans eagerly await to see how the characters’ histories and complex relationships unfold.
