The Young and the Restless star Christel Khalil is asking fans to give the new Cane Ashby a chance. Billy Flynn has taken over the role from Daniel Goddard. Khalil, who plays Lily Winters, is excited to have a more prominent storyline again.
She said, “I’ve been wanting to be used more, so it’s great to be working a lot more and have something to really sink my teeth into.”
Executive Producer Josh Griffith kept the return of Cane a secret until just before filming began. Khalil was surprised but thrilled about the character’s return. This will be Khalil’s first time working with Flynn.
She heard positive things about him from other cast members. Khalil emphasized that this new version of Cane is different from Goddard’s portrayal.
Cane’s fresh beginning with Flynn
“I think the good thing that Josh has done is he’s completely changed the character of Cane. It doesn’t feel like we’re trying to have someone step into Daniel Goddard’s shoes. It’s pretty much an entirely new character,” she explained.
The show has added flashbacks of interactions between Lily and Cane over the past few years. This makes it feel like a new relationship in some ways. Khalil urged fans to approach the new storyline and interpretation of Cane with an open mind.
“At the end of the day, it’s not going to be the same Cane. It’s a completely different person, and I really hope that everybody gives Billy a chance and tries to look at the character through new eyes,” she said. The Young and the Restless airs weekdays on CBS and streams on Paramount+.
