Tom Cruise is set to return as IMF agent Ethan Hunt in “Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning.” The film is projected to break the franchise’s opening weekend record with a $100 million domestic debut over the Memorial Day weekend. None of the previous “Mission: Impossible” entries have opened with $100 million, despite the success of the spy saga at the box office. The franchise’s best opening weekends domestically are:

– $61.2 million – Mission: Impossible — Fallout
– $57.8 million – Mission: Impossible II
– $55.5 million – Mission: Impossible — Rogue Nation

Fans are expected to turn out in droves to see Cruise perform his own stunts, especially if this is his final appearance as Ethan Hunt.

The franchise has consistently achieved excellent ratings, with every sequel boasting an “A-” or better CinemaScore, except for “Mission: Impossible II’s” “B” grade. Critics have also been staunch supporters of the “Mission: Impossible” franchise, with four installments earning a “Certified Fresh” rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The franchise’s worldwide box office totals are impressive:

– $791.1 million – Mission: Impossible — Fallout
– $694.7 million – Mission: Impossible — Ghost Protocol
– $682.7 million – Mission: Impossible — Rogue Nation

Breaking the billion-dollar mark at the box office would be a first for the “Mission: Impossible” saga.

Cruise’s final thrilling mission

This feat will require the fandom’s support when “The Final Reckoning” releases on May 23. The trailer, which dropped on April 7, has amassed over 12.6 million views in just five days.

It shows Hunt facing his most dangerous enemy yet in the form of an AI known as the Entity. Scenes depict Hunt grabbing onto a fighter plane, running from a Kremlin bombing, and gassing a security briefing, among other high-octane stunts. The film reunites Cruise with director Christopher McQuarrie and will see the return of franchise regulars.

“Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning” promises to be a thrilling conclusion to Ethan Hunt’s adventures, wrapping up one of Hollywood’s most iconic action franchises. The film has also been selected to launch at the Cannes Film Festival.
