Director Kang Hyung-chul recently addressed the controversy surrounding Yoo Ah-in’s involvement in the new film “High Five” at a production briefing held on May 12th at Lotte Cinema Konkuk University Entrance in Gwangjin-gu, Seoul. The actor’s appearance in the movie had become a topic of speculation following a drug scandal. Kang candidly stated, “I barely touched it,” regarding the scenes involving Yoo Ah-in.
He explained that the movie was still in its post-production phase when the scandal broke. “It’s unfortunate, and I wish it hadn’t happened,” he added, expressing his regret over the situation. Despite the controversy, Kang emphasized his commitment to completing the film.
“When something big happens, I’ve heard that a competent leader should solve it first,” he remarked. As both a director and a leader, he felt it was essential to push forward and finish the movie, working hard to complete it for the sake of the cast and crew.
Kang addresses Yoo Ah-in scandal
Yoo Ah-in had been released on probation in February after serving a prison sentence for drug administration. Reflecting on the incident, Kang said, “I decided to complete the works of shining actors,” indicating his resolve to honor the hard work put in by the entire team. “High Five” is a comic action film that tells the story of five individuals who acquire superpowers through organ transplants and encounter those who covet their newfound abilities.
The ensemble cast includes Lee Jae-in, Ahn Jae-hong, Ra Mi-ran, Kim Hee-won, Oh Jung-se, and Park Jin-young. Director Kang Hyung-chul, known for films such as “Speed Scandal,” “Sunny,” “Tazza: The Hidden Card,” and “Swing Kids,” helms the project. The movie is set to be released on May 30th.
