Disney World’s Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin is set to close this August for major upgrades. The nearly 30-year-old ride will reopen next year with new show scenes, updated ride vehicles, and enhanced gameplay. Michael Hundgen, Creative Portfolio Executive Producer with Walt Disney Imagineering, said, “We’re not just sitting on our laurels; this is a great update to a classic attraction.”
One of the biggest changes will be new handheld blasters.
They will allow guests of all ages to aim more accurately and score more points. The blasters will have advanced lighting, sound, and vibration effects. This will let Space Rangers know if they hit specific targets.
Disney Imagineers recently tested these improvements.
Buzz Lightyear ride enhancements detailed
They said it was crucial to delivering an “out-of-this-world experience” for guests.
“Everyone had a great time, and our team learned a lot,” project creative director Justin DeTolla said. The ride’s storyline is based on the 1999 Pixar film “Toy Story 2.” The upgrades will include a new robot named “Buddy.” He will help Space Rangers prepare for their mission against the evil Zurg. Along with the ride’s enhancements, Walt Disney World is getting ready for summer.
They have new deals on tickets, dining, and hotels. Two new shows featuring “The Little Mermaid” and Disney Villains will open on May 27. A new nighttime parade will also start at Magic Kingdom later this summer.
Disney is always making improvements to keep classic rides like Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin fresh and exciting for guests.
