The Tulsa Botanic Garden is welcoming a new exhibit called “Florigami in the Garden” by Bartlesville native Kevin Box. The exhibit features 20 displays of larger-than-life metal sculptures inspired by origami, ranging from a 16-foot origami tulip to a bumblebee the size of a coin. Box expressed his excitement about bringing the exhibit to his home state, saying, “It’s pretty exciting coming back to kind of my home town, so to speak, and this exhibition debut in Oklahoma.
We are ready to bring a big exhibit to Tulsa Botanic Garden.”
The sculptures showcase the possibilities of origami, with pieces depicting butterflies, galloping ponies, flowers, leaves, and even a deer with antlers.
Florals and origami combine beautifully
One of the new pieces in the exhibit is a butterfly display that collaborates with the garden’s horticultural staff by incorporating flowers planted within the sculpture.
Lori Hutson from the Tulsa Botanic Garden shared her enthusiasm for the exhibit, stating, “We are excited Kevin, you know a Bartlesville guy, is coming back to Oklahoma and I think a lot of people are as well. But also the special part is that he chose this exhibit and our garden to debut those three new pieces.”
The exhibit will be on display at the Tulsa Botanic Garden through September 21, offering visitors a unique experience as the seasons change and different flowers bloom. Box noted, “As the seasons change, different things bloom, it’s never the same view twice.”
