Josh Freese, the former drummer for the Foo Fighters, recently shared a humorous list of “Top 10 possible reasons” he was fired from the band after a two-year stint. Freese, who joined the group in May 2023 following the tragic death of previous drummer Taylor Hawkins, announced his unexpected departure on Friday, May 16. In a lighthearted social media post, Freese speculated on the reasons behind his dismissal, which included his “poodle obsession,” inability to grow facial hair, and relentless whistling of the Foo Fighters’ hit song “My Hero” for a solid week while on tour.

Other whimsical reasons on his list were his “metronome-like precision behind the kit [being] deemed ‘soulless,'” demanding every rehearsal begin with a “20-minute cowbell sound bath,” and not showing up to the studio “because Mercury was in retrograde.”

Despite the surprise announcement, Freese expressed no ill will toward the band, stating, “Regardless, I enjoyed the past two years with them, both on and off stage, and I support whatever they feel is best for the band.” He also noted that as a freelance musician who has worked with various bands, he would be fine despite the unexpected news.

Josh Freese’s humorous response

Fans have responded positively to Freese’s post, appreciating his humor and positive outlook on the situation.

One fan joked, “Wait…weren’t these the same 10 reasons that GOT you hired???” while another commented, “YOU ARE THE BEST!!! It was the poodles, for sure. 😂”

As of now, the Foo Fighters have not publicly commented on Freese’s departure or announced his replacement. However, Freese’s ability to find humor in the situation has resonated with fans, who continue to support him as he moves forward in his career.
