Vince Gilligan, the creator of the hit TV shows “Breaking Bad” and “Better Call Saul,” has a new project in the works. The upcoming series will star Rhea Seehorn, who played Kim Wexler on “Better Call Saul.”
Gilligan and Seehorn recently appeared together at the WGA’s Paddy Chayefsky Laurel Award ceremony. Seehorn presented Gilligan with the award.
They talked about their new show, which is still mostly a secret. Gilligan said he is excited to work with Seehorn again. He created the new show just for her.
“I’m excited for audiences to see Rhea play a very different character than the character she played on ‘Better Call Saul,'” Gilligan said.
Gilligan and Seehorn’s new collaboration
“She plays someone who’s trying very hard to be good.
She’s a bit of a damaged hero, but she’s a hero nonetheless.”
Seehorn also shared her thoughts on the new series. “Some of the stuff that audiences have loved about his writing — really rich characters, playing with the idea of tropes and genres and tone, and switching, like injecting humor in a very dark moment — in this new show, he pushes that to a limit that was both very thought-provoking and upsetting sometimes, and other times, so, so funny,” she said. “It really swings for the fences.
I had so much fun.”
The show will stream on Apple TV+, but the release date is still unknown. Gilligan hinted that it might be similar in some ways to the movie “E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial.” Seehorn described it as “sci-fi but in a more psychological kind of sci-fi way.”
Given Gilligan’s success with “Breaking Bad” and “Better Call Saul,” and Seehorn’s standout performance in the latter, many people are eagerly awaiting this new series. Apple TV+ is known for high-quality original content, which adds to the anticipation.
