Hong Kong's M+ museum signs partnership with MoMA

Hong Kong’s M+ museum has signed a memorandum of understanding with New York’s Museum of Modern Art (MoMA). The agreement aims to foster exchange in various fields, including joint efforts in curatorial research, conservation, programme sharing, and talent development. M+ director Suhanya Raffel and MoMA director Glenn Lowry signed the agreement.

They hope it will be the beginning of a fruitful partnership between the two institutions. “The MOU represents the beginning of a fruitful partnership between the two esteemed institutions, built on a shared commitment to international collaboration, cultural exchange and museum development,” M+ said. As part of this collaboration, M+ is set to hold a special exhibition showcasing over 200 works by renowned Chinese-French abstract painter Zao Wou-Ki.

Museum collaboration fosters international exchange

The exhibition underscores M+’s commitment to bringing world-class art to Hong Kong. MoMA, established in 1929, is one of the world’s most famous museums.

It boasts a 200,000-item collection that includes masterpieces such as Vincent van Gogh’s The Starry Night and Pablo Picasso’s Les Demoiselles d’Avignon. M+, a relatively new institution that opened its doors in 2021, continues to make strides in the art world with such notable partnerships. This collaboration is expected to bring together the strengths of both museums.

It will enhance cultural exchange and development in the international museum community.
