Jackie Carton is an interior designer who shared her five key trends for interior design in 2025. She says people want their homes to be personal sanctuaries that make them feel good. “What makes one person feel comfortable can look very different for another,” says Jackie.

“Some might prefer light, airy colours while others may find solace in dark, moody hues. It’s all about individual taste and comfort.”

Jackie notes that colour trends are influenced by things like wellness, climate change, and diversity in society. She sees a shift towards warm, earthy colours like terracotta, ochre, greens, and rich browns.

These colours create a welcoming and cosy atmosphere. The pandemic has made people want spaces where they can gather with family and friends. Jackie suggests using furniture that can be folded or stacked to make room for social connection in small spaces.

Many people also want homes with clean lines, neutral colours, and good organisation. Jackie says this can help reduce anxiety in a world with a lot of digital information.

“Minimalism doesn’t equate to devoid of personality. Personal items like artwork or artisan pieces can still be a part of the decor, but in a curated manner,” she points out. Lastly, Jackie says her clients often ask for their homes to feel cosy.

This involves using colour, lighting, and soft furnishings to create a warm and inviting space. “Think of how the ambiance changes during Christmas with those elements in play. It’s about transforming a bright, day-time space into a warm, snug area in the evening,” she says.
