Johnny Depp brought smiles to the faces of children at the Niño Jesús University Children’s Hospital in Madrid on Monday. The actor, who is currently filming his latest movie “Day Drinker” in Spain, dressed up as his iconic character Jack Sparrow from the “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise. Photos from the visit show Depp, 62, interacting with the young patients, touching pinkies with them as he visited their hospital rooms.

The children appeared delighted by the surprise visit from the Hollywood star. This is not the first time Depp has donned his pirate costume to visit children’s hospitals.

In September 2024, he made a similar appearance at the Donostia University Hospital in San Sebastián while attending the San Sebastián Film Festival. During that visit, he spent time with patients in the Pediatrics and Oncology ward, never breaking character and bringing laughter to the children. Depp has a history of visiting children’s wards dressed as Jack Sparrow in various cities around the world, including Paris, London, Brisbane, and several locations in the United States.

The actor first portrayed the swashbuckling pirate in 2003’s “The Curse of the Black Pearl” and reprised the role in four sequels: “Dead Man’s Chest,” “At World’s End,” “On Stranger Tides,” and “Dead Men Tell No Tales.”

Following legal battles with his ex-wife Amber Heard, Depp is making a return to acting. His most recent film, “Jeanne du Barry,” was released in 2023. Regarding the future of the “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise, producer Jerry Bruckheimer expressed interest in having Depp return, praising the actor’s unique portrayal of Captain Jack Sparrow.
