Katy Perry recently joined an all-female crew aboard a Blue Origin spaceflight in West Texas. The mission aimed to celebrate women’s achievements and conduct scientific experiments. However, the trip has faced significant backlash, particularly targeting Perry’s dramatic post-flight gestures and remarks.

An insider revealed that Perry regrets making a “public spectacle” out of the experience. She reportedly feels uncomfortable about the in-flight moments that were broadcast, including scenes of her floating in microgravity, holding a daisy as a tribute to her daughter, promoting her upcoming tour setlist, and singing “What a Wonderful World.”

Several celebrities, including Emily Ratajkowski, Olivia Wilde, Olivia Munn, and Amy Schumer, criticized the spaceflight as a flashy marketing stunt for Jeff Bezos’ space company. Fast food chain Wendy’s also joined in, leaving a cheeky dig under a photo of Perry in her flight suit.

Gayle King, who was part of the crew, defended the mission on CBS Mornings. She pushed back against claims that the flight lacked scientific value or meaningful impact.

King emphasized the deeper significance behind the flight and its potential to inspire women and young girls. Perry explained the special meaning behind bringing a daisy onboard, describing the flower as resilient, powerful, and strong. She called it a reminder of the beautiful magic that surrounds us.

Despite the criticism, the mission brought attention to the evolving landscape of spaceflight and the roles women can play in it. The all-female crew became the 104th women to travel past the Kármán line, the internationally recognized edge of space.
