“The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie” opened this weekend and took the fifth spot at the U.S. box office. The animated film earned $3.1 million in domestic theaters and an extra $840,000 in other countries. This brought its worldwide total to almost $4 million.
The movie did better than “Paddington in Peru,” which made $2.7 million. But it did not beat “Captain America: Brave New World,” which earned $5.4 million. “The Day the Earth Blew Up” is an important film for Looney Tunes fans.
Warner Bros., the company that owns Looney Tunes, has had some problems lately. Another Looney Tunes movie called “Coyote vs. Acme” has been delayed.
Peter Browngardt directed the new movie. Eric Bauza did many of the voices. Looney Tunes fans hope the film will keep doing well in the coming weeks.

The movie’s success at the box office could be good news for fans. This weekend had the lowest box office numbers of the year so far. All the movies in theaters only made a total of $50 million.
“Captain America: Brave New World” was the top movie with $8.7 million. Other movies did not do as well. Bong Joon Ho’s new movie dropped to second place.
It made 60% less money than it did last weekend. “Last Breath,” a disaster movie with Woody Harrelson, only made $2.3 million. “The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie” is now playing in theaters across the country.
It had a strong opening weekend. This could mean it will keep doing well in the weeks ahead. The movie has a lot of fans who love Looney Tunes.
But it will have to compete with other new movies coming out for the holidays.
