Phoebe Waller-Bridge to narrate Amazon’s octopus documentary

Phoebe Waller-Bridge, the acclaimed actress and writer known for her work on “Fleabag” and “Killing Eve,” is set to narrate and executive produce a new two-part documentary titled “Octopus!” for Amazon Prime Video. The documentary will take viewers on a journey into the mysterious world of the Giant Pacific Octopus, following its life from birth to death. “Octopus!” will feature a diverse cast of characters who have unique connections to these fascinating creatures.

The documentary will include scientists working to save octopuses, explorers trying to understand them, and even comedian Tracy Morgan, who has a deep fascination with these intelligent animals. The series promises to deliver an emotional and thought-provoking experience that will make viewers laugh, cry, and question our place on the planet.

Vernon Sanders, head of television at Amazon MGM Studios, expressed enthusiasm for the project, stating, “This charming and unique story will shine a light on these immensely special and intelligent animals through Phoebe’s endearing and comedic lens. Not only will our global customers get an up-close look at the octopus, but you will see the impact they have on people that dedicate their lives to studying these magical creatures.”

“Octopus!” is a collaboration between Waller-Bridge’s production company, Wells Street Films, and Alex Gibney’s Jigsaw Productions. Niharika Desai will direct the documentary, with Waller-Bridge and Jenny Robins serving as executive producers for Wells Street Films, alongside Stacey Offman and Richard Perello for Jigsaw Productions.

Melissa Wood will act as the showrunner for the series. In addition to “Octopus!,” Waller-Bridge and Wells Street Films are working on several other projects for Amazon Prime Video, including adaptations of the “Tomb Raider” video games and Claudia Lux’s novel “Sign Here.” The documentary is set to premiere on the streaming platform this spring, offering viewers a captivating look into the world of these remarkable sea creatures.
