Matt Berninger, the lead singer of The National, has released a new solo song called “Inland Ocean.” The track is from his upcoming solo album, which will be out on May 30 through Book/Concord. “Inland Ocean” was co-written with Walter Martin of The Walkmen. It features backup vocals from Julia Laws, also known as Ronboy.
The song has an echoing guitar riff and a heavily echoed saxophone. It brings a sunnier, new-wave vibe while still sounding like The National. Berninger has already shared the album’s lead single and another collaboration with Hand Habits.
“Inland Ocean” is the opening track of his new album. It sets the tone for what listeners can expect from his solo project.
Matt Berninger’s upcoming solo album
This will be Berninger’s second solo album. His first, “Serpentine Prison,” came out in 2020. The new album will include previously released tracks such as “Bonnet of Pins” and “Breaking into Acting.”
Berninger will also be going on his first-ever North American solo tour.
It starts on May 19 in Seattle. The tour is in support of the new album. Fans can listen to “Inland Ocean” now.
The full album will be available on May 30. It promises to showcase Berninger’s distinctive voice and songwriting style outside of his work with The National.
