Meghan Markle’s unconventional pasta dish from her new Netflix series has sparked a lively debate online. In the show, the Duchess of Sussex shares a one-pot pasta recipe that involves placing most of the ingredients in a cold pan and then covering it with boiling water from a kettle. While some viewers found the technique genius for a low-maintenance meal, others were skeptical.

The moment Meghan poured hot water over raw spaghetti, a corner of the internet went into meltdown mode. To get a professional opinion, we spoke to pasta expert Danny Freeman, known as @dannylovespasta. He recreated Meghan’s dish and shared his honest reaction in a video that drew millions of viewers.

Danny appreciated the low-maintenance method, especially as a parent of young children.

Debate over Meghan’s one-pot pasta

“My kids are one and four years old, so I’m always looking for quick cooking hacks,” he told Tasty.

While he enjoyed the dish, Danny had a few suggestions: sauté the garlic and tomatoes before adding the spaghetti and consider using chicken broth instead of water for added flavor. However, he praised Meghan’s approach, saying she doesn’t need any advice from him. Danny’s kids may have “picked around” the greens, but overall, he gives the dish his stamp of approval.

“Meg likes things that are quick for her family, and she clearly likes greens,” he noted. Inspired by Meghan’s technique, Danny suggested that her next pasta dish could feature a vibrant pesto made with greens like kale or arugula, almonds, Parmesan, garlic, lemon juice, and olive oil — a no-cook option that could be ready in 10 minutes. While pasta purists may have balked at Meghan’s unconventional method, the conversation around her dish has sparked more curiosity than criticism.
