The new series “The Paper,” a spinoff of the beloved sitcom “The Office,” is set to premiere on Peacock in September 2025. The show will take place in the offices of the Toledo Truth-Teller, a historic Midwestern newspaper struggling to stay afloat. The series, co-created by Greg Daniels and Michael Koman, will feature a mix of new and familiar faces.
Domhnall Gleeson, Sabrina Impacciatore, and Oscar Nuñez, who reprises his role as Oscar from “The Office,” will star alongside Chelsea Frei, Melvin Gregg, Gbemisola Ikumelo, Alex Edelman, Ramona Young, and Tim Key. In a trailer shown during the NBCUniversal upfront presentation, the documentary crew that once followed the employees of Dunder Mifflin’s Scranton branch now turns their attention to the Toledo Truth-Teller. Oscar, now working as an accountant for the paper, appears less than thrilled to see the crew again.
Impacciatore plays the managing editor, while Gleeson portrays an idealistic new employee.
First look at new series
The show’s creators worked closely with local organizations, such as FilmToledo, to ensure an authentic representation of the city.
FilmToledo assisted the production team by sourcing Toledo-specific brands, memorabilia, and sharing stories about the city’s culture. Local clothing brand Jupmode also announced that their custom-made apparel themed to the 419 area code will be featured in the series. “The Paper” is one of several new scripted offerings from Peacock, alongside projects starring Seth MacFarlane and Keke Palmer.
The series is executive produced by Daniels, Koman, “The Office” creators Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant, Howard Klein, Ben Silverman, and Banijay Americas. Universal Television will serve as the studio. Fans can look forward to the premiere of “The Paper” this September on Peacock, with an exact date to be announced later.
The series promises to bring the same mockumentary style and humor that made “The Office” a cultural phenomenon, while introducing viewers to a new cast of characters and a fresh setting in the heart of the Midwest.
