Bring Me The Horizon, a British metal band, recently released a cover of the classic Oasis song “Wonderwall.” The cover puts a heavy spin on the original, with electric guitars and pounding drums replacing the acoustic sound. Liam Gallagher, the original vocalist of “Wonderwall,” surprisingly expressed his love for the cover on social media. He wrote, “I fucking LOVE it” and said it made his day.
When a fan suggested Gallagher would be upset by the cover, he replied, “I’m not, it’s absolutely incredible. Made my day! I’m off out on my skateboard. F— y’all”.
Gallagher applauds unexpected Wonderwall cover
The artwork for Bring Me The Horizon’s single pays homage to the original “Wonderwall” music video. The band is donating all profits from the track to the Teenage Cancer Trust.
This cover comes as Oasis has announced a reunion tour set to kick off in Wales on July 4th before heading to the US for shows in Chicago, New Jersey and Los Angeles later in the summer. Meanwhile, Bring Me The Horizon is slated to headline the UK’s Reading & Leeds Festival in August. Gallagher’s positive reaction to such a bold reimagining of “Wonderwall” from a metal band adds an interesting twist to the Oasis story.
The original song was a massive hit, peaking at #8 on the Billboard Hot 100 and earning Grammy nominations in 1997.
