Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis recently created hand-drawn portraits of their mother, Kate Middleton. The Princess of Wales shared the artwork on Instagram as part of a public service announcement about the importance of art. “Drawing portraits with children can provide a moment of connection as you spend time looking at and focusing on one another, as well as being creative and — most importantly — having lots of fun together!” Middleton wrote in the post.
Six-year-old Prince Louis used markers to draw his mom with simple red facial features and wavy orange bangs. Princess Charlotte, age nine, opted for crayons to create a more colorful portrait featuring green, blue, and purple hair, detailed eyes, nostrils, and lips. However, it was 11-year-old Prince George’s black-and-white sketch that captured the most attention.
Using a fine-tipped marker or pen, he depicted Middleton sitting in a large, detailed chair with crossed legs, arms in her lap, and long hair tucked behind her ear. Fans praised the children’s artwork, especially George’s drawing. “What an artist Prince George is 😍🙌,” one person commented.
Children’s artistic bonding moments
Another added, “Aww this is adorable. Prince George is really talented, I would never have been able to make such an elegant portrait at 11 years old🖼”
Middleton also shared her own charcoal portrait of Prince Louis, highlighting her artistic abilities.
The drawing shows a blissful image of her youngest son with his eyes closed. These relatable moments reveal that, despite their royal status, the family enjoys everyday activities like art. The portraits were part of a special bonding activity aimed at spending quality time together while being creative.
The release of these portraits aligns with Middleton’s ongoing support for the Shaping Us initiative from The Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood. The initiative underscores the significance of creative play in child development, as drawing portraits with children can foster a moment of connection and creativity, ultimately contributing to emotional and social skills development. Middleton, who studied art history at St Andrews University, has always been passionate about the arts.
She recently visited the National Portrait Gallery, where she joined a group of five-year-olds on an exhibition tour, encouraging them to portray themselves and explore their emotions. The Prince and Princess of Wales are expected to take some time away from the public eye this week as they enjoy a family vacation during their children’s school break.
