Printemps New York is set to open its doors this spring with a bold, experimental retail concept at One Wall Street. The 55,000-square-foot space, designed by architect Laura Gonzalez, combines retail, hospitality, dining, and curated experiences in an ever-evolving environment. Visitors will find a fantastical playground that unifies the building’s 1920s design with its modern extension.

Gonzalez drew inspiration from the heritage of Printemps Paris, incorporating mosaics, stained glass, and historical patterns into a vibrant New York story. The retail experience unfolds through ten distinct sections, each with its own identity. The Broadway entrance leads to the Playroom, a multi-colored marble space dedicated to casual wear and gifts.

The LED-ceiling-equipped Sneaker Room offers a futuristic shopping experience, while the Salon displays women’s ready-to-wear and accessories. Sustainable innovation is at the heart of the design. Classic oak floors are inlaid with natural stone, vintage-style Art Nouveau tiles reinterpret historic motifs, and marble tabletops are fashioned from recycled plastics.

All the store’s furniture is crafted from upcycled materials, with antique pieces sourced from French flea markets.

The Red Room, occupying the former Bank of New York entrance, retains its original 1920s red ombré and gold mosaic.

Gonzalez introduced an ecological resin ‘forest of flowers’ to preserve the space. Other notable areas include the Boudoir, which features evening wear and fine jewelry, adorned with warm moon-gold metal cladding and Atelier Maury’s cracked lacquer screens. A pink marble staircase leads to the Red Room Bar, designed with rich red jasper marble and stained glass.

Printemps’ fine dining concept, Maison Passerelle, merges Parisian and New York influences, featuring hand-painted tiles, floral plaster bas-reliefs, and an Art Nouveau mosaic floor. Gonzalez’s design also integrates works from international artists. Paris-based Studio Pierre Marie reimagines Printemps’ stained-glass legacy, Brooklyn sculptor William Coggin contributes an organic, coral-inspired bar counter, and French artist Charles Kaisin creates a bird installation for The Salon.

Printemps Group CEO Jean-Marc Bellaiche emphasizes the innovation embodied in the New York location. “What we have created in New York physically embodies our core values of innovation and perpetual renewal,” says Bellaiche. “It forges a lasting connection between New York and Paris, between Printemps and the city.”

Printemps New York is set to open to the public on Friday, March 21, 2025.
