The stars of the iconic 1985 film “The Breakfast Club” reunited for the first time in 40 years at the Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo (C2E2). Molly Ringwald, Judd Nelson, Ally Sheedy, Emilio Estevez, and Anthony Michael Hall gathered to celebrate the milestone anniversary of their classic coming-of-age movie. During the panel, the actors shared memories of working with director John Hughes and discussed the film’s lasting impact.

Ringwald expressed feeling emotional about having the entire cast together again. Estevez, who portrayed Andrew Clark, joined his co-stars for a group reunion for the first time since the film’s release. He said, “This just was something that, finally, I felt I needed to do, just for myself.

It’s here in Chicago where we made the film, obviously the 40th anniversary.

It just felt like it was time.”

“The Breakfast Club” premiered on February 15, 1985, and tells the story of five teenagers from different walks of life who form an unlikely bond during a day-long detention at their high school.

The film grossed over $45 million at the global box office and remains a beloved classic. Ringwald also shared her dissatisfaction with the controversial makeover scene involving Ally Sheedy’s character, Allison. She said, “I just want to say that I am not responsible for the makeover.

And I was really not happy.”

The scene, which has been criticized by fans over the years, shows Allison’s transformation from a goth basket-case to a more conventionally attractive appearance. Sheedy herself had pushed back on the makeover during conversations with Hughes, suggesting a more subtle change. Despite the controversy surrounding the scene, the reunion served as a poignant reminder of the film’s enduring legacy and the friendships formed during its production.

The cast members have kept in touch over the years, with Ringwald sharing a photo of herself and Sheedy embracing during a dinner date in 2022.
