Travis Kelce, the Kansas City Chiefs tight end, recently opened up about his experience hosting “Saturday Night Live” (SNL) in March 2023. In an interview on the “New Heights” podcast, Kelce admitted that the table read was the most challenging part of the process due to his struggles with reading. “The table read was the hardest f–king part,” Kelce said.
He explained that while he enjoyed the creative process and the ideas pitched by the writers, he felt immense pressure not to make mistakes before the cameras started rolling. Kelce described himself as “more of an audio guy” and said that cold-reading scripts was a “kind of a f–ked situation” for him. He felt like he was trying to get through the reading instead of acting it out and giving it a voice and character.
Kelce’s table read struggles
Despite the challenges, Kelce made his hosting debut on March 4, 2023, and managed to overcome his apprehensions. He later made a surprise cameo in the Season 49 premiere of SNL, joking about the media’s focus on his relationship with Taylor Swift.
Kelce also shared his excitement about the experience on his podcast, mentioning his admiration for former SNL cast member Pete Davidson and his astonishment at meeting him. In addition to his SNL stint, Kelce has ventured into acting, with several TV credits to his name, including a role in the 2024 TV series “Grotesquerie” and an appearance in the upcoming “Happy Gilmore 2,” set to be released on Netflix on July 25. Kelce’s candid admission sheds light on the often unseen challenges that celebrities face when stepping out of their usual domains and into new, demanding roles like hosting a live comedy show.
His openness about his difficulties has earned him further admiration from fans and colleagues alike.
