Netflix has ordered a live version of the viral YouTube dating show “Pop The Balloon,” which will air every Thursday at 8 p.m. starting April 10. The show, hosted by comedian and actress Yvonne Orji, features contestants navigating a group of potential suitors while holding red balloons. If a contestant is not interested in a particular suitor, they pop the balloon to signal rejection.

“Pop The Balloon” has become a viral sensation since its debut in 2023, amassing millions of views across 48 episodes and even inspiring a sketch featuring comedian Dave Chappelle. The live version will include special guest appearances from reality TV personalities such as Johnny “Bananas” Devenanzio, Chase DeMoor, Farrah Abraham, and Zaina Sesay. Executive producers Matt Sharp, Bolia Matundu, and Arlette Amuli expressed their excitement about the show’s expansion and reimagination on Netflix.

Pop The Balloon Live premieres

“This new iteration builds on the original’s core concept while pushing the boundaries of connection, chemistry, and unpredictability,” said Sharp. Orji, an Emmy-nominated Nigerian American comedian, actor, and author, brings her unique perspective to the show.

“After playing the ‘unlucky in love’ Molly Carter for five seasons, I know a thing or two about looking for love in a hopeless place. As host, I’m looking forward to striking that delicate balance of heart and humor for our daters and the Netflix audience,” she noted. “Pop The Balloon Live” joins Netflix’s roster of live programming, which includes various reality and social experiment shows.

The series promises eliminations, unpredictable dilemmas, and unfiltered romance, bringing a fresh and thrilling twist to the dating show genre. Tune in on Netflix to catch all the drama and romance as it unfolds live each week, starting April 10 at 8 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. PT.
