Cameron Diaz has said she would be open to doing a sequel to the 1994 comedy “The Mask” if her co-star Jim Carrey is also involved. In a recent interview, Diaz said, “If Jim’s on board, I mean, I’ve been riding those coattails from day one.”
“The Mask” starred Carrey as Stanley Ipkis, a mild-mannered bank teller whose life changes when he finds a magical mask. Diaz played nightclub singer Tina Carlyle in the film, which was her first major movie role.
Carrey has also expressed interest in a potential “Mask” sequel, but said it would need to have a strong script. “Oh gosh, you know, it has to be the right idea,” he said. “It’s not really about the money.
Diaz open to mask sequel
I joke about the money… But I never know.
You can’t be definite about these things.”
During the same interview, Diaz mentioned she would also be interested in doing another “Charlie’s Angels” sequel with her former co-stars Drew Barrymore and Lucy Liu. She even joked about having her current “Back in Action” co-star Jamie Foxx play Bosley in the film. Diaz recently came out of a 10-year acting retirement to star in the upcoming Netflix movie “Back in Action.” Her comments have fueled speculation among fans about possible sequels to both “The Mask” and “Charlie’s Angels.”
Whether either of these projects actually happens remains to be seen.
But the fact that both Diaz and Carrey seem open to the idea under the right circumstances has definitely generated buzz. Fans of the original “Mask” would no doubt love to see the two stars reunite for more comedic adventures nearly 30 years later.
