The highly anticipated “Harry Potter” HBO series continues to take shape as more cast members are announced. Lox Pratt, best known for his role in the BBC’s television adaptation of “Lord of the Flies,” has been chosen to play Draco Malfoy, Harry’s classmate and rival. Johnny Flynn, who stars in the Netflix thriller series and appeared in the 2020 adaptation of Jane Austen’s “Emma” alongside Anya Taylor-Joy, will portray Draco’s father, Lucius Malfoy.

Some of Harry’s relatives have also been cast, with Bel Powley set to play Aunt Petunia and Daniel Rigby as Uncle Vernon Dursley. Katherine Parkinson will take on the role of Molly Weasley, Ron Weasley’s mother, while Bertie Carvel will portray Cornelius Fudge. The series, expected to premiere towards the end of 2026 or the beginning of 2027, follows the success of the movie franchise and book series.

J.K. Rowling, the author of the wizarding novels, will serve as an executive producer on the program. In May, the actors who will portray the three leading characters were announced. Dominic McLaughlin is set to play Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton will play Hermione Granger, and Alastair Stout will portray Ron Weasley.

Casting updates for ‘Harry Potter’ series

Like the original film actors, McLaughlin, Stanton, and Stout will age in real time alongside their characters as the television show is released over the course of 10 years. The show plans to dive deep into each of the iconic books, providing a thorough exploration of the beloved narrative.

Other key supporting roles include notable actors, although not all casting announcements have been made public yet. The role of Voldemort, the series’ overarching villain previously portrayed by Ralph Fiennes in the films, has yet to be announced. Jason Isaacs, who famously portrayed Lucius Malfoy in the original “Harry Potter” film series, expressed his approval of Johnny Flynn taking over the role.

Isaacs shared his sentiments on social media, praising Flynn’s multifaceted talents. “A fantastic actor, a lovely man and, irritatingly, a rather brilliant musician too. Couldn’t have handed the snake-topped baton on to anyone better.

Just please don’t make him sing…” Isaacs commented. The new “Harry Potter” HBO series promises to bring renewed magic to the small screen, offering an immersive experience for both new and long-time fans.
