Heather Tom, a veteran actress on the long-running soap opera “The Bold and the Beautiful,” is set to make history on March 27 by directing, writing, and starring in an all-female episode of the show. The episode, which will air during Women’s History Month, will focus on the relationships between mothers and daughters. Tom, who has played the role of Katie Logan since 2007, will be joined by fellow cast members Katherine Kelly Lang, Jennifer Gareis, Rebecca Budig, Jacqueline MacInnes Wood, and Annika Noelle.

The episode will juxtapose the euphoric moment between Taylor and Steffy with the turmoil faced by Hope and Brooke. For Tom, the episode holds personal significance as she incorporates elements of her own mother’s story into the script. “I lost her last year and wanted to have a chance to pay homage to her,” Tom shares, tearing up.

“It makes me cry every time.”

While keeping the details under wraps, Tom promises a startling climax to the episode. “It’s emotional, it’s dramatic. I think it was shot really beautifully.

It came together exactly the way I wanted it to,” she says proudly. The behind-the-scenes crew for this historic episode will also be predominantly female, including an assistant director, stage manager, and editor.

Tom acknowledges the logistical challenges of acting, writing, and directing simultaneously but embraces the creative outlet. Known for her emotional performances, Tom has garnered six Daytime Emmys throughout her career. She attributes her ability to evoke powerful emotions on screen to crafting stories with high stakes.

“When you make the stakes high enough and big enough, then you put yourself in a position where the emotion is real,” she explains. Tom’s dedication to her craft sometimes leads to unexpected moments in public spaces. “I like to go to a cafe to write because I enjoy the company around me,” she says.

“But I’ll find myself crying through the scenes I’m writing, and it’s really embarrassing. You have to put yourself in those situations and think about the emotions as if they were happening to you.”

As for her character Katie’s future storylines, Tom remains open-minded. “Women really come into their own as they get older, and I feel like she’s in that position to have a relationship with a true equal.

I would love to see whatever additional challenges and romantic opportunities come her way,” she shares. “The Bold and the Beautiful” airs weekdays on CBS, with Tom’s landmark episode scheduled for March 27.
