Remake Unrated

The highly anticipated reboot of “The Toxic Avenger” is finally set to hit theaters later this year, thanks to distributors Cineverse and Bloody Disgusting. Directed by Macon Blair, the film will be released unrated, despite earlier reports suggesting it was deemed “unreleasable.”

Peter Dinklage stars as Winston Gooze, a downtrodden janitor who transforms into the mutant vigilante known as Toxie after a freak accident. Armed with his signature mop, Toxie battles freaks, gangsters, and corrupt CEOs while trying to save his relationship with his son.

The film channels the subversive energy of the original “Toxic Avenger” while delivering a fresh, contemporary twist. It features an all-star cast that includes Kevin Bacon, Elijah Wood, Jacob Tremblay, Julia Davis, and Taylour Paige.

Director Macon Blair expressed his gratitude in a statement, saying, “It’s so cool that folks will have the chance to see this in theaters; it’s a fun, rowdy movie you wanna see with a crowd. Our goal was always to preserve the heart and spirit of the original Toxie and make something that Troma fans would dig, while also doing something fresh with the character.”

Cineverse chairman and CEO Chris McGurk added, “‘The Toxic Avenger’ isn’t just a great film; it’s an important one. Peter Dinklage’s transformative performance and Macon Blair’s fearless direction deliver a story that speaks to the anxieties of our time with outrageous humor and unflinching creativity.”

The film has already garnered critical acclaim, boasting a 92% score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Lloyd Kaufman, President of Troma and creator of “The Toxic Avenger,” praised the reboot, saying, “Macon Blair’s Fantoxic reimagining of Toxie’s life is even better than Troma’s! The Troma Fans will be ecstatic!”
